What is PCO Licence?

PCO stands for Public Carriage Operator. A PCO licence is mandatory for anyone intending to work as a private hire vehicle driver. If you have a lapsed badge, you will not be able to take bookings. You may also be subject to enforcement or financial penalties.

A PCO badge is issued for a limited period and needs to be renewed prior to its expiry. Drivers with a valid badge have the opportunity to work with licensed private hire operators and carry passengers for hire or reward as part of chauffeuring work.

The licensing process is administered by TfL, which sets the standards and conditions applicants must meet before approval.

What is PCO Licence?

PCO stands for the Public Carriage Operator. The Department of Transport for London (TfL) are responsible for awarding private-hire licenses to mini cab drivers in London. The PCO license is crucial as you cannot legally work or be hired without one and you can face a huge fine if you work without a badge. Each badge lasts for three years and at the end of the three years the badge can be renewed. The PCO license allows individuals to work for any private hire companies such as Uber, Addison Lee and mini-cab offices. The badge is also required for any private chauffeuring work which involves carrying passengers.
